Yahoo boys ruined my family, gave my mum stroke till she died – Victim

A distraught Yahoo Boys victim described how his mother died and his family was ruined by online scammers’ actions.

The man, Ifeanyichukwu, revealed this information in response to a now-viral post on X (formerly Twitter) in which a user tried to minimize the crimes committed by Yahoo boys.

.

The original post read:

“Yahoo boys have done absolutely nothing for the hate they receive… they just wan collect Sandra and John money use am buy oversized polo man.”

The man, infuriated by the statement, described how his mother’s life tragically changed after she became a victim of fraud. He claimed that Yahoo boys had stolen his mother’s retirement money only after she had retired.

She had a stroke due to the trauma of the incident, but she recovered. She then had several more strokes, which finally caused her death.

The pain did not stop there. In January, the man revealed that his father’s ATM card was stolen, after it got stuck in a bank ATM. Before he could report the issue inside the banking hall, fraudsters had already withdrawn ₦1.4 million using a POS.

In his post, the man did not hold back in condemning the fraudsters and those who attempt to justify their actions.

Victim of Yahoo Boys shares tearful account

“You are very stvpid for this. My mum was never the same again after a yahoo boy scammed her of her retirement money. She had a stroke, survived it and had series of strokes afterwards which led to her death.

“On January, they stole my dad’s ATM card and withdrew #1.4M from His account, me and my brother were very much afraid when it happened as it brought back memories of my mum’s death. The money was later replaced so he wouldn’t think munch about it.

“Most of you scammers will rot in the deepest part of hell. God punish you people. Before una say I’m lying. These are the screenshots, the thief withdrew the money from a POS.

“My dad’s card got stuck inside an ATM, by the time he could enter the bank to complain, the thief had already removed his card and withdrew money. He was receiving alert inside bank hall transaction.”

His story has since sparked massive conversations online, with many expressing sympathy and calling for stricter penalties for cybercrime and better protection for vulnerable citizens, especially the elderly.

@babajydo: And for some reasons it is always this Opay… same thing happened to my dad and 3.0million got moved from his account cos he mistakes a scammer for Gtbank customer care. Thankfully enough between Opay and Gtbank they froze the guys account and were able to reverse the money.

@Ruth_oghenero: This same thing happened to my friend’s mom, her ATM card got stucked in the machine, before she could get her card back, she was debited of all her retirement money that was paid in the account, right inside the bank.

@Scribe_johnson: I’m sorry to hear what happened to your father. To avoid similar incidents, please only accept assistance from authorized security personnel at the ATM gallery. It’s also essential to educate our parents and seniors on the importance of being cautious during ATM transactions.

@educatdtout: You don’t need to show any evidence to crooks , only crooks supports crooks. Any justifying stealing from someone is a thief .

@17ogadinduez: If you check very well, this occurred when he allowed unauthorized persons to touch and assist him at ATM machine. The moment they touch that card, sope otilor!

@Waheedlekan: You are not lying. It happened to my mom. She was at first bank ATM to make a withdrawal & apparently the card stuck. She went inside to make a complaint in other for her ATM card to be given back to her, and the next thing is debit alerts and all the cash was withdrawn using POS
