A Nigerian man is commemorating a significant achievement six years after arriving in the UK on a work visa: he is now a British citizen.
He shared a heartfelt post on his X (previously Twitter) page, showing off his new British passport with pride.
He stated in the post that he only obtained the status last month and that two weeks later, he was granted his blue passport.
“I became a British citizen last month, and just two weeks later, my ‘Blue’ passport arrived,” he wrote. “Visiting London has been a childhood dream, but never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d one day be called a citizen of the UK — a place I can now call home.”
He added that growing up, he was nicknamed “Pappilo of London” or simply “Papa,” which now feels like a childhood prophecy come true.
Reflecting on his journey, he expressed deep gratitude:
“It took me some time to put this into words as I am still processing it all, but I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity. This country has given me so much, and I have grown so much since arriving at Heathrow on 1st January, 2019.”
He emphasized that while it may seem like an “ordinary” event to others, it’s a momentous occasion for him.
“For that boy from Bariga who defied the odds, this is a huge milestone I am proud of and choose to celebrate.”
Sharing how he accomplished it, he wrote: “Took 6 years on a work visa.”
Despite his new status, he expressed continued love for his homeland: “I still love my Green passport.”
