Court sentence Blessing Okoro to prison for alleged cyberbullying

Blessing Okoro, a self-proclaimed relationship expert, has been remanded in custody by the Lagos State Federal High Court for alleged cyber-bullying. 

Blessing Okoro, who was arrested on Thursday morning, March 30, by men from the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), was arraigned on a six-count charge of alleged cyber-bullying, libel, and exhibiting uncensored movies. 

The prosecution counsel, Rotshang Faith Dimka of the Force Headquarters in Abuja, claimed during her arraignment that on October 16, 2022, Blessing intentionally sent messages through her Instagram handle, @officialblessingceo, to bully, threaten, and harass Folashade Samuels, also known as Mamajazz, the younger sister of the late Bimbo Ogbonna, wife of Lagos businessman Ikechukwu Ogbonna, also known as IVD.

Blessing was also accused of using her Instagram handle to harm the reputations of Folashade Samuels and the late Bimbo Ogbonna by exposing them to hatred, contempt, and ridicule. 

According to the police, Blessing Okoro allegedly sent the following messages:

“Let’s ask Mamajazz where her father is??? Their father had exactly the same issue with their mother Ebele and he ran away for his dear life. IVD’s crime was that he was not man enough to run…

The family of late Bimbo is after IVD’’s properties and life. Especially her elder sister Mamajazz. Bimbo and IVD are well-known people in Lagos and it’s not a hidden fact that even in their estate that Bimbo is violent.

I will ask Mamajazz, the late Bimbo’s sister few questions…where you in talking terms with your sister before (she) died?”

The defendants had violated Section 24 (2)(a)(1) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015, Section 375 of the Criminal Code Act, and Section 33 of the NFVCB Act, 2004. The accused pleaded not guilty after hearing the charges. 

Justice Yelim Bogoro, the presiding judge, remanded Blessing CEO in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services, NCoS, until May 30 for a hearing on her bail application.
