Nigerian music icon Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Balogun, has released Morayo, his eagerly awaited sixth studio album.
The album, which was released on Friday, November 22 under the labels of RCA Records and Starboy Entertainment, is yet another masterpiece in the singer’s impressive discography.
The album’s title, Morayo, is a very intimate tribute to Juliana Morayo Balogun, Wizkid’s late mother, who died in August 2023.
In July, Wizkid tweeted, “Best album I ever made!!” in reference to the project’s emotional inspiration, calling it his best work to date. Now listen! It’s only up from here!”
Throughout the 16 tracks, Wizkid’s distinctive Afrobeat sound is interwoven with themes of joy, resiliency, and loss. It features a variety of partnerships with both domestic and foreign celebrities:
- The popular song “Place of My Heart,” which features Brent Faiyaz, has already reached No. 4 on the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart.
- Another standout track from the album is Bad Girl with Asake, which came after their Grammy-nominated collaboration MMS.
- Bad For You with Jazmine Sullivan and Après Minuit, which features French singer Tiakola, give the song a worldwide appeal.
Other songs with a blend of lively grooves and introspective melodies, such as Kese (Dance), Troubled Mind, and Pray, complete the album.
