A man named Olubunmi Johnson has been taken into custody by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly setting his wife Kikelomo on fire in their apartment on Fagbuyi Street, Ilogbo, in the Ota neighborhood of Ogun State.
PUNCH Metro learnt from an eyewitness on Saturday evening that the incident took place around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, following a domestic dispute.
Omolola Odutola, the state police command spokesperson, informed our correspondent that Johnson has been arrested in connection with the crime, even though the specific circumstances leading up to the altercation are still unknown at the time of this report.
According to information obtained, the victim’s family notified the police about what is currently being investigated as an attempted murder after a neighbor who saw the incident alerted them.
Odutola informed PUNCH that the 55-year-old suspect was arrested as a result of prompt action by Ilogbo Division police officers.
“The husband doused his wife’s body with petrol and set her on fire with a match. Witnesses to the incident immediately rushed her to the hospital.
“Upon receiving the report, our detectives quickly took action and arrested the husband, who has since been detained.”
