“I was unable to eat for a week” – Eniola Ajao discusses her battle with false information

Popular Yoruba actress and filmmaker, Eniola Ajao opens up about the severe emotional toll that online fake news took on her, nearly pushing her to self-harm.

Ajao revealed in an open interview on Nollywood on Radio how damaging social media rumors caused a personal crisis that had an impact on her social life and mental health.

“I almost poisoned myself because of news about me on social media that was far from true. It was the first time in my life to faced something so painful that I couldn’t eat for seven days. I didn’t go anywhere. People around me can testify to it,” she revealed.

Because of the severe effects, Ajao withdrew entirely and was unable to eat or interact with others for seven days.

“My sisters were calling, telling me, ‘You have to do this for yourself. You don’t have to poison yourself.’ My son was reaching out to everyone that I was struggling with the online lies,” she added.

It is noteworthy that the actress once experienced intense social media criticism after she named Bobrisky, a contentious transgender person, the most dressed woman at the premiere of her film. She subsequently clarified that it was all staged for the film’s promotion.
