Helicopter ditches into water, kills 3 in Port Harcourt

Three individuals have been confirmed dead following a tragic incident where a helicopter made an emergency ditching into the waters off the coast of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Rescue efforts were launched immediately after the accident, but sadly, the three people on board were not saved. The circumstances surrounding the accident are still being investigated.

According to Channels Television, the accident happened in Port Harcourt’s waterways at 11:22 AM on Thursday.

The helicopter, a Sikorsky SK76 registered 5NBQG and flown by East Wind Aviation, was traveling to the Nuimantan oil rig from Port Harcourt Military Base (DNPM).

Eight people were on board the helicopter when the incident occurred, according to Odutayo Oluseyi, a spokesman for the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.

At the moment, the authorities are concentrating on looking into the accident’s circumstances and will provide updates as new information becomes available.

Authorities reported that rescue efforts had been initiated after the plane ditched into the Atlantic Ocean waters close to Bonny Finima.
