Tension in Rivers as gunmen launch multiple attacks, police arrest Reps member in 2023 polls

Political thugs have attacked the home of King Tony Gboms, the Social Democratic Party’s House of Representatives candidate for the Obio-Akpor Federal constituency in Rivers State.

According to sources, there were heavy shootings on Tuesday night (yesterday) at the Gboms premises.

It is still unknown whether anyone was hurt in the attack.

On the same night, gunmen attacked the premises of a TV/Radio station owned by a former House of Representatives member, Chinyere Igwe, in Ozuoba, Rivers State’s Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

In another development, the member of the House of Representatives representing Etche-Omuma, Ephraim Nwuzi, who is running for re-election, has been kidnapped by State Criminal Investigation Department operatives.

Detectives from the State CID are said to have raided Nwuzi’s home in Chokocho, a community in Etche Local Government Area, where he is a member of the All Progressives Congress.

The detectives allegedly broke into his residence through his back gate before entering his building.

Other APC members arrested in Rivers State include Chijindu Innocent and Emmanuel, both from Omuma LGA, and Victory Agbara-Ngbagbu, from Tai LGA.

The Rivers State Police Command has not yet released a statement.

However, the state’s newly redeployed Assistant Inspector General of Police and four Commissioners of Police are expected to brief journalists later today, Wednesday.
