The family of the late Onyeka Onwenu shares burial plans.

The late legendary singer, Onyeka Onwenu, will be buried before the end of August 2024.

When the late singer’s family received a delegation from the Musical Society of Nigeria, or MCSN, for a condolence visit at his apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday, they revealed this information to VISIOTALKS.

Onwenu was a member of MCSN until her sudden death on Tuesday, the day after she gave a performance at Emzor Pharmaceuticals owner Chief Stella Okoli’s 80th birthday celebration.

According to Vanguard, Onwenu’s sons, Abram and Tjiani, who received the delegation led by the Chairman of the MCSN Board of Trustees, Orits Wiliki, expressed their desire to honor their late mother’s wishes by burying her as soon as possible.

According to them, the burial plans would be publicized in the coming days.

Overcome with grief, King Sunny Ade wrote, “Dear sister and colleague, may your gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” on the condolence register at the singer’s residence. The world’s fans and friends will always remember you.

Flautist Tee Mac, who has promised to play music by the late musician Kenny Ogugbe, King Sunny Ade, and Mayo Ayilaran, General Manager of MCSN, are among the other members of the delegation.

Meanwhile, in a moving reflection shared three years ago, veteran Nigerian singer and actress Onyeka Onwenu expressed her genuine intentions for how she wanted to be remembered and buried.

Onwenu left behind a legacy of stirring music and successful advocacy. She passed away on Tuesday night at Reddington Hospital in Lagos after losing consciousness during Mrs. Stella Okoli’s birthday celebration.

In a 2021 editorial piece for Premium Times, Onwenu expressed her desire for a modest and private burial with no extra hoopla.

“Do it quickly, quietly, and privately,” she requested.

She encouraged her loved ones to mourn her death, but not unduly. Instead, she hoped they would honor her life with prayers and lighthearted moments.

“Celebrate me with prayers, followed by lunch or dinner. Share some jokes about me and laugh. “Make merry and then go about your business,” she stated.

In addition, Onwenu requested that her friends congratulate her while she was still living as opposed to after her death.
