As the 2023 general election approaches, the Amotekun Corps Osun State Command has stated that its personnel will be deployed for a patrol to supplement the efforts of the Nigeria Police.
The security organization revealed that it has put measures in place to ensure a peaceful election.
Brigadier-General Bashir Adewinmbi, Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, stated this in a press statement obtained on Tuesday in Osogbo.
General Adewinmbi stated that corps operatives would work with their sources to gather actionable intelligence to counter potential threats across the state.
“We are embarking on high visibility vehicular patrols in Osogbo metropolis and its environs to deter would-be criminal elements and complement the Police measure to checkmate any criminal that may come to the State,” he said.
“Osun has long been known as a peaceful state, and we don’t want anything to disrupt the peace and tranquility that we have all enjoyed for so long.”
The Amotekun Corps Commander urged residents to be aware of their surroundings.
He urged them to report suspicious movements and people to security agencies to avoid exposing valuables and properties to undue risk.
VisioTalks recalls that the Osun State Police Command warned politicians not to violate the provisions of the Electoral Act in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola.
The Command also warned parents and guardians that their children should not be used to commit acts that could lead to the breakdown of law and order in the state.
