Tonto Dikeh, a politician and Nollywood actress, has ignited a firestorm of controversy on the internet by advising Nigerians to reevaluate their preparations for a national protest that is set for August 1–10, 2024.
Tonto Dikeh took to her Instagram page to share that she understood the general dissatisfaction and financial struggles that Nigerians are going through, including a sharp rise in market prices.
The actress acknowledged the challenges that many people face in her statement, but she also hinted that a national demonstration might not be the best course of action.
She stated that her experiences during the EndSARS protests, when she said that violent and fatalities resulted from the movement being taken over by hateful people, shaped her position.
Alternately, Tonto Dikeh suggested creating a representative group to hold direct talks with President Bola Tinubu.
She underlined the necessity of diplomatic and peaceful means of resolving the nation’s economic problems.
“Sometimes we can be right, but our mode of expression is what matters. This is an honest plea to all Nigerian youths. Let’s make smart choices,” Tonto Dikeh’s memo caption read.
Many Nigerians have harshly criticized the actress’s proposal on social media. Many contend that she is diverting attention from the pressing need for immediate action by calling for dialogue.
They expressed worries that the proposed representatives would be vulnerable to corruption and would neglect to deal with the actual problems that everyday people face.

A government that promised Nigerians good life, sweet governance and in less than one year Nigerians have faced the worst hardship ever and all you could advise is dialogue. Dialogue for what and what exactly?. In a civilized nation when a Government becomes incompetent the principal of the ruling body resigns. Tinubu must Go.”

Since you joined ACP, how many times have you sit with our president to discuss our current hardship, how many times have wrote an open letter to the president, you better do what you like and allow other people do theirs.”
