The controversial activist Verydarkman, also known as VDM, talks about losing the Trendupp Awards’ “Force of Social Good” category to chess master Tunde Onakoya.
Recall that Tunde Onakoya, the founder of Chess in the Slum and holder of the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous chess game at 58 hours, defeated VDM in spite of the overwhelming support of his supporters.
VDM’s supporters are outraged, alleging he was robbed, while critics are mocking him.
In response, Verydarkman released a video shrugging off the loss, emphasizing that his social media activism is driven by passion, not a desire for awards.
Demonstrating a defiant nonchalance towards the controversy, he revealed he was unaware of his nomination and is too busy with his activism to attend award ceremonies.
“Wetin I wan use award do? What do you people think we do here? Award night? People are going through pain, in prison, e.t.c, too many things to do and I go come carry myself dey look for award? What is my business? What am I using award to do?” he said partly.
