Abdulrasheed Bawa, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has been arrested and remanded in prison by the Kogi State High Court in Lokoja.
Bawa was arrested and remanded in Kuje prison for disobeying a court order, according to Justice Rukayat Ayoola.
Because the EFCC boss was in contempt of court, Ayoola also directed the Inspector General of Police to ensure compliance.
The judge ordered that the EFCC Czar be remanded in custody for the next 14 days.
The judge granted an application to remand Bawa in prison because he disobeyed a court ruling issued on November 30, 2022.
The anti-corruption chief was directed to produce Ali Bello, an applicant in a case.
Sumaila Abbas, the applicant’s counsel, had dragged Bawa to court for illegally arresting and detaining Bello, and the court ruled in his favor, only for the EFCC to arraign him three days later for alleged money laundering.
However, the EFCC’s applications for setting aside and staying the ruling’s execution were denied for lack of merit.
