Yobe government declares an 18-day school holiday ahead of the 2023 elections

The Yobe State government, through the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, has declared an 18-day holiday for schools across the state ahead of the upcoming general elections.

This was stated in a letter signed by the Director of Schools Management, Bukar Modu, who also stated that the holiday is being implemented to allow students and teachers to exercise their civic rights in the upcoming elections.

The letter, titled “Approved Yobe State School Calendar for 2022-2023 Academic Session,” states that the 18-day holiday will be held from February 23rd to March 13th, 2023.

“The 18 Days break is in consideration of the distance of some students, especially exchange program students.

“However, 10 days out of the 18 Days given will be slashed from the Third Term holiday and thus the holiday will be 8 days only.

“To recover the 10 days, students are to break for the Third Term holiday from Tuesday 15th August instead of Friday 4th August 2023 as earlier scheduled in the Calendar”, it explained.

In the letter, the Director of the Schools Management Board warned students not to be used as thugs, emphasizing that the Yobe State Government is committed to their welfare and will continue to provide quality education.
