“How slapping a DJ affected my career” – Terry G opens up on his career setback

Terry G, the well-known Nigerian singer Gabriel Oche Amanyi, has revealed how a contentious DJ incident had a detrimental impact on his career.

According to reports, Terry G allegedly assaulted DJ Phreez, a protégé of DJ Jimmy Jatt, on June 5, 2016, during an event in Lagos.

The conflict arose when DJ Phreez opted to play another artist’s track in an attempt to prompt Terry G to wrap up his performance.

In response, Terry G got into a physical fight with DJ Phreez, which caused quite a stir in the Nigerian music industry and prompted the DJs Association of Nigeria (DJAN) to take strong action against Terry G.

One such action was placing Terry G on a blacklist, which prevented him from receiving support from the DJ community for events and radio airplay.

Terry G described the incident as a setback that impeded his growth as an artist and acknowledged its negative effects on his career progression in an interview on the Afrobeats Podcast.

He apologized to DJ Phreez and DJ Jimmy Jatt, stating that he was sorry for what he had done and that he was trying to make amends and bridge the gap between them.
