An Islamic group, Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, on Monday, urged the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, to ban ‘Kuku Do Ritual’. Portable is a studio album by Habeeb Okikiola.
According to MURIC’s Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the new album will encourage youths and other Nigerians to embrace ritual.
The group described the song as “disgusting, detestable, and egregious,” calling it an open assault on Nigerian and African values.
He claimed that Portable’s latest song had reduced human life to the level of common ants, which can be stamped out with no qualms or consequences.
He cited three teenagers caught attempting to kill a 13-year-old girl in Bayelsa State for a money ritual in January 2022, and four teenagers living in Abeokuta, Ogun State, who killed one of their girlfriends for a money ritual.
The group urged all men of goodwill, all mothers in Nigeria, and Muslim and Christian leaders to speak out against the ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ madness and ritual killings among children, for which the ambassador has just released a horrifying song in their honor.
It also demanded immediate action from Nigeria’s traditional rulers, who are the custodians of the country’s resources.
He urged religious leaders to put pressure on the authorities to stop the album’s distribution and broadcast on any radio or television station and through any medium.
The group urged NBC, the National Film and Video Censors Board, the Nigerian Copyright Commission, the Nigerian Copyright Commission, and the Performing Musicians’ Association of Nigeria, PMAN, to take appropriate action.
