Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the Lead Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has revealed that the Department of State Services, DSS, refused a one million naira donation for the agitator’s medication and nutrition.
Ejiofor stated that Mike Ozekhome, Kanu’s legal team leader, raised one million naira and presented it to the DSS to receive Kanu’s prescription, but the secret police refused the money on the grounds that it could be used to purchase the narcotics.
According to Ejiofor’s allegation, the DSS failed to provide Kanu with critical medical care while detaining him despite court orders.
Part of the statement read: “Though our erudite lead counsel – Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, immediately swung into action to press for the needful to be done without further ado, it is important to point out that only a few weeks ago, a cash sum of N1,000,000 was made available to the DSS by our Lead Counsel – Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, to specifically be applied for the medical needs, and routine meals of Kanu.
“Unfortunately, the detaining authority (DSS) refused to accept the money, insisting that they have all it takes to cater to Kanu’s medical needs and routine meals.”
Remember that Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, had expressed concern over DSS’s failure to feed and care for Kanu.
