Six victims of human trafficking in the state were reportedly rescued, according to the Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The victims were saved by the command’s men on Sunday, according to Mr. Ahmed Bagari, the state’s NIS Comptroller, who spoke to reporters in Dutse on Monday.
The victims were rescued at around 6:30 p.m., according to Bagari, who was represented by DCI Muhammad Yako, in Babura town, the seat of the state’s Babura Local Government Area.
He explained that the victims, who ranged in age from 20 to 35, were stopped while traveling from the Niger Republic to Libya.
The victims, who are a male and five females, are from the states of Oyo and Nasarawa, the comptroller added.
He claims that none of the rescued victims had any kind of travel documentation, and during questioning, nothing incriminating had been discovered on them.
“The victims were rescued on Sunday, the 1st January 2023 on their way to the Niger Republic en route Libya. The victims are made up of five females and one male that hailed from Oyo state; only one of them is from Nasarawa State,” he stated.
The victims, identified by the comptroller as Olalekan A. Alabi, 35, Kehinde Adetunde, 26, Afolabi Ajibola, 24, Adedoyin Adetoji, 20, Olawuyi Mose Bolatimoyo, 35, and Blessing John, 22, were rescued from a syndicate’s holding facility in an unfinished building in Babura town.
He continued by saying that Mr. Idris Jere, the NIS Comptroller-General, had ordered that the victims be given to NAPTIP, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, for further action.
