Volunteer youths from Anambra detains 80 alleged criminals in Onitsha

In the Upper Iweka neighborhood of Onitsha, about 80 people who were thought to be notorious criminals were detained.

In the commercial city of Onitsha’s Upper Iweka neighborhood, which is known for having a high crime rate, the alleged criminals are thought to be responsible for petty crimes.

The Anambra Youth Volunteers’ leader and the Anambra North zonal coordinator of the Anambra Joint Enforcement Team (ANJET), Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, claimed in a press release that the team’s efforts were spurred by Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the state governor, who wanted a peaceful Christmas celebration.

In the past few weeks, a voicemail complaining about criminal activity in Upper Iweka went viral. Okpalaezeukwu confirmed that after hearing the voice note, the group entered.

He stated: “Going forward, the Anambra Youth Volunteers in collaboration with ANJET and other law enforcement agencies will continue to make Upper Iweka and its environs inhabitable for criminals.

“We have deployed a team of local youth volunteers around the state to support law enforcement agencies with intelligence and enforcement where necessary. We urge Ndi Anambra to support Mr Governor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s effort to make our homeland liveable and prosperous.”
