“Why You Dey Touch My Lap?” — Lady Drags Man by His Shirt in Public Bus, Accuses Him of Touching Her Inappropriately

A fight broke out between a lady and a man after the lady accused him of touching her inappropriately inside a public transport vehicle.

In the viral video, the lady was very angry. She held the man tightly by his shirt and kept confronting him, saying:

“Why you dey touch me inside motor? Why you dey touch my lap? Ehn? Why you dey finger me?”

As she kept dragging him by his shirt, other passengers and people nearby tried to separate them and calm things down.

It is important to note that no one has confirmed the allegation independently. The video alone does not show exactly what happened.

The Effect of Harassment in Public Transport

Cases like this make commuters, especially women, feel scared and unsafe when using public transport. Many people who face harassment stay quiet because they fear no one will believe or support them.

These kinds of cases also damage people’s trust in the transport system. This can make people avoid buses and other public vehicles. When harassment is not dealt with, it encourages more people to do it, and it makes bad behaviour seem normal instead of something to be punished.

The Solution to Harassment in Public Vehicles

Stopping harassment in public transport needs everyone to work together:

  • Victims should be encouraged to report incidents right away
  • Other passengers should step in safely and support anyone who raises an alarm, instead of looking away
  • Drivers and transport operators should take complaints seriously and call the right authorities when needed
  • Transport unions should punish anyone found guilty of harassment
  • Where possible, CCTV cameras should be installed in public vehicles to help provide evidence during investigations
  • Government agencies should create more awareness campaigns and make sure offenders are prosecuted when there is evidence

My Thoughts

If the allegation is true, then the woman’s reaction makes sense. No one should have to suffer sexual harassment just for trying to get from one place to another. Everyone deserves to feel safe in public spaces.

At the same time, allegations this serious need to be properly investigated. Victims should feel free to speak up, but the facts should also be checked through a fair process. Supporting people who complain and making sure there is due process are both important for justice to be done.
