Classmates allegedly remove unemployed man from group after he used ₦1.2m support funds to plan wedding

A social media user has sparked debate after recounting how an unemployed former coursemate was allegedly removed from their group chat after using money contributed for his welfare to plan his wedding.

According to the woman, members of their class had contributed a total of ₦1.2 million to support the man, who had reportedly been unemployed for six years. She said the funds were intended to help him learn a vocational skill or start a small business.

However, she claimed the beneficiary later surprised everyone by sharing his wedding invitation in the group, explaining that he decided it was the right time to marry his girlfriend of four years because he now had “a little money.”

The development reportedly left many members stunned, as they believed the financial assistance was meant to help him rebuild his livelihood rather than fund a wedding.

According to her, the situation worsened when the man allegedly requested additional financial support from the group, saying his wedding budget was ₦3.2 million and he could not afford it alone.

She claimed the request was met with disapproval, and members eventually removed him from the group chat.

The post read:

“My coursemates and I contributed ₦1.2 million for one of our classmates who has been jobless for the past 6 years.

We raised the money to help him learn a skill or start a small business so he could get back on his feet.

Just last week, he sent his wedding invitation in the group.

The whole group went silent.

When we asked him why, he said since he now had ‘a little money,’ he decided it was the right time to marry his girlfriend of 4 years.

We said nothing.

He sent another message:

‘Guys please, I can’t do this alone. My wedding budget is ₦3.2 million. I need your support.’

They removed him from the group immediately. 🙄”

@TundeWrites: “The second request for wedding donations was probably what pushed everyone over the edge.”
