Man Loses Access to ₦3 Million After Lending Friend Money for Canada Relocation

A Nigerian man has shared how an act of trust allegedly left him stranded after he lent a close friend ₦3 million to support the friend’s proof of funds for relocation to Canada.

According to him, he obtained the money from his wife because the friend was someone they both knew and trusted. The agreement was that the money would be returned after the relocation process was completed.

However, after the friend arrived in Canada, the man said he was informed that the money had been sent to the friend’s father with instructions to hand it back to him.

Things reportedly took a shocking turn when the friend’s father refused to release the money. According to the man, the elderly man insisted that his son—not him—should be responsible for repaying the debt and allegedly used the ₦3 million to purchase a brand-new motorcycle.

Despite explaining how urgently he needed the money, the man claimed the friend’s father dismissed him, hissing before ending the call.

The heartbreaking account has since gone viral, sparking widespread debate about trust, lending money to friends, and the risks of involving family members in financial agreements.

@Ada: “The father had no right to spend money that wasn’t his. That’s so unfair.”

@Tunde: “Everything was based on trust instead of proper documentation. That’s a costly mistake.”

@Kenny: “The friend in Canada should take responsibility immediately. His father shouldn’t be keeping someone else’s money.”

@Grace: “Imagine borrowing your wife’s money to help someone, only to end up in this situation. Painful lesson.”
