Woman Reportedly Discovers Husband Secretly Resigned, Spent Most of ₦24 Million Gratuity

A social media user has triggered widespread reactions online after narrating how a woman allegedly discovered that her husband secretly resigned from work months ago and spent most of his ₦24 million gratuity without informing his family.

The incident, said to have happened in a residential compound, gained attention after the neighbour claimed the woman’s cries during the argument could be heard throughout the area.

According to the account shared online, the man resigned from his job in February but continued dressing up every morning as though he was still employed.

The neighbour claimed the wife only recently uncovered the truth and discovered that only ₦3.7 million remained from the gratuity payment.

Similar stories involving financial secrecy in marriages have surfaced repeatedly in Nigeria in recent years, especially amid rising economic hardship and growing concerns over trust, communication, and transparency between couples.

“My neighbor is fighting her husband, the whole compound can hear her screams. Apparently, husband resigned at work since February, collected gratuity of ₦24M but Baba didn’t say anything to wife but dressed up every morning for ‘work’,” the social media user wrote.

The post further stated:

“Na ₦3.7M remain from the money.”

The story has since generated heated debates online, with many Nigerians expressing shock over the secrecy, while others argued that financial decisions in marriage should involve both partners.

Some social media users also questioned how such a large amount of money could allegedly disappear within a few months without explanation.
