“He sent his wife packing over iPhone” — Nigerian man’s viral story sparks heated debate online

A Nigerian man has triggered widespread reactions on social media after sharing how an iPhone incident allegedly caused the collapse of a young couple’s marriage for seven months.

According to the viral X (formerly Twitter) post, the husband had originally gifted his wife the iPhone during their engagement party. However, after two years of marriage and growing financial struggles, trouble reportedly began when the phone got damaged.

The narrator explained that on a Sunday morning, while preparing for church, the couple attempted to record a Snapchat video from a two-storey building when the phone accidentally slipped and shattered.

Following the incident, the woman allegedly refused to accompany her husband to church, a move that reportedly surprised him.

In an attempt to ease tensions, the husband was said to have purchased an Android phone for her the following day so she could remain reachable while they worked toward replacing the damaged iPhone.

However, she reportedly rejected the Android phone and kept her line switched off.

The situation allegedly worsened when the husband faced an emergency at work and was unable to contact his wife.

According to the narrator, the man returned home furious and decided to send his wife out despite her repeated pleas.

Seven months later, the couple are reportedly still living apart.

The post has generated intense discussions online, with many users divided over whether the issue was truly about the phone or deeper marital challenges.

Social media reactions:

“This marriage clearly had bigger problems before the phone incident.”

“Why reject the Android phone when things were already financially tough?”

“Communication failure destroyed this home, not just iPhone.”

“Sending your wife away over this seems too extreme.”

“Pride, anger, and poor decisions can destroy relationships faster than hardship.”

“Sometimes it’s never really about the surface issue.”
