A Nigerian lady has weighed in on the growing debate surrounding Moniepoint, questioning the company’s role in developing local talent amid concerns about workforce quality in Nigeria’s tech sector.
Reacting via X, she referenced the fintech firm’s prominent sponsorship of Big Brother Naija in 2023, suggesting that corporate priorities may be tilted more toward entertainment visibility than long-term educational investment.
“The same Moniepoint was the headline sponsor for BBNaija in 2023,” she stated.
She also challenged the leadership of Tosin Eniolorunda, urging scrutiny of the company’s support for tech education, STEM initiatives, and scholarship funding.
Her remarks have added another layer to broader conversations sparked by recent comments from Moniepoint’s CEO regarding Nigeria’s talent gap and the struggle to recruit professionals who meet international standards.
The discussion highlights a recurring public question: should leading tech companies play a larger role in cultivating the talent pipeline they often criticize, through direct investments in education, training, and skills development?
