A 71-year-old man has shared a heartbreaking story of regret after remaining in a marriage overshadowed by years of betrayal.
According to the unnamed man, he discovered at age 52 that his wife had been unfaithful throughout their entire marriage.
Devastated by the revelation, he said he considered leaving but ultimately decided to stay because of family obligations, the fear of starting over, and concern about разрушing the life they had built together.
“I was 52 when I found out my wife had been cheating all through our marriage. She begged, we cried, and I stayed. I told myself we were too old to start again. We had children and even grandchildren. I thought walking away would destroy everything we built,” he recounted.
Now, nearly 20 years later, he says staying became the greatest mistake of his life.
The man explained that despite choosing forgiveness, the betrayal continued to haunt him daily, leaving him emotionally trapped in pain and resentment.
“Now I am 71, and I know I was wrong. I never got over it. Not even close. I live every day wondering what my life could have been if I had walked away at 52. Maybe I wouldn’t have found love again, but I wouldn’t be this miserable,” he lamented.
His experience reflects findings from previous relationship studies, including a 2018 global survey that linked unresolved infidelity to prolonged emotional suffering and damaged marital satisfaction.
The emotional testimony has sparked conversations about forgiveness, self-worth, and whether staying in broken relationships for family or societal expectations can sometimes lead to deeper lifelong regret.
