A young married woman has opened up about a tense encounter with her mother-in-law that has resulted in months of silence between them.
The issue began during her mother-in-law’s four-day visit when the older woman noticed that the house had not been swept. Curious, she questioned why the floor was untidy.
In response, the wife explained that they employed a cleaner who visited weekly and was scheduled to arrive the following day.
However, her explanation did not sit well with her mother-in-law.
“I told her we have a cleaner who comes weekly and he was due the next day. She looked at me and asked what exactly I do that I can’t sweep, and why I’m wasting my husband’s money on a small apartment,” the woman recounted.
The comment quickly created tension, as the mother-in-law criticized her for relying on domestic help instead of handling chores herself.
Before the disagreement could escalate further, the woman’s husband stepped in firmly to defend his wife, making it clear that he had no issue with their arrangement.
According to the wife, her husband responded that he did not marry her simply to perform household chores and that paying for a cleaner was not a waste of money.
The atmosphere became even more uncomfortable when the mother-in-law reportedly picked up a broom and started sweeping herself, seemingly determined to make a point.
However, after noticing the couple’s reaction, she stopped and left the house the following day.
Since then, communication between the wife and her mother-in-law has completely broken down.
“My husband says I should leave her, but I’m even thinking of calling her to apologize. I don’t know anymore if I was wrong,” the woman shared.
The incident has sparked wider conversations about generational differences in marriage, domestic responsibilities, and expectations placed on women within the home.
While some believe the mother-in-law’s criticism reflects traditional values about a wife’s duties, others argue that modern couples should be free to structure their homes in ways that best suit their lifestyle without outside interference.
