JAMB Candidate Raises Alarm Over System Failure During Exam

A 2026 candidate of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed frustration after encountering a technical issue during her examination.

In a statement shared online, the candidate alleged that her computer system suddenly shut down while she was still taking the test, raising concerns about how the incident might affect her final result.

“I don’t just understand the kind of bad system Nigeria has, because tell me why my computer suddenly went off while I was still writing my JAMB exam. Despite complaining to the management, they told me, ‘It will submit by itself,’” she said.

According to her account, the disruption happened without warning, and attempts to get immediate help from officials at the examination centre did not provide reassurance at the time.

The situation has since sparked reactions across social media platforms, with some users recounting similar experiences, while others called on JAMB to strengthen its technical infrastructure and ensure more reliable systems during its computer-based tests.

Incidents like this often raise broader concerns about the reliability of exam technology. Typically, JAMB’s system is designed to auto-save candidates’ progress and submit responses when time elapses or in the event of disruptions. However, candidates are advised to immediately report any technical issues to invigilators and ensure that such incidents are officially documented before leaving the exam hall.

Mixed Reactions Trail JAMB Candidate’s Exam Glitch

The incident involving the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) candidate has triggered a wave of reactions online, with opinions sharply divided:

Some users sympathised with the candidate, sharing similar experiences and expressing concern over the reliability of the system:

This same thing happened to my cousin last year. They just told him it would submit, but he came out confused.”

“Imagine the panic she must have felt. JAMB really needs to fix these technical issues.”

Others, however, defended the examination process, insisting that JAMB’s system is designed to prevent loss of answers:

JAMB computers auto-save every second. Even if it goes off, her answers are safe”

“People need to understand CBT systems better. It will definitely submit what she has done.”

A third group criticised the response from the exam centre officials, arguing that candidates deserve clearer communication during such situations:

Telling a student ‘it will submit by itself’ without explaining properly is not reassuring at all.”

“Even if the system works, the way they handle candidates during issues is poor.”

Meanwhile, some commenters called on JAMB to improve transparency and technical support at CBT centres to reduce anxiety during exams:

They should have backup systems or at least show candidates proof that their work is safe ”

“These are life-defining exams. There should be zero room for this kind of uncertainty.”

The discussion highlights ongoing concerns about trust, communication, and technical reliability in high-stakes computer-based examinations.
