A resident of Lagos Island has sparked conversation online after lamenting the worsening living conditions in the area, especially the lack of access to clean water.
In a viral video, the woman described daily life on the Island as far from the luxury lifestyle often portrayed on social media. According to her, residents are forced to spend heavily just to meet basic water needs.
She explained that drilling boreholes has not solved the issue, as the water is often salty and unsuitable for drinking or household use. As a result, many households depend on sachet water or pay for water supplied by trucks.
“We’re really suffering here on Lagos Island. Forget all these fake life, we are suffering and smiling… Sometimes I have to buy pure water. One truck of water is sold for ₦3,000… If we dig borehole, na salt water go come out,” she said.
Her remarks have since triggered mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians sharing their thoughts on the situation:
Adebayo Opeyemi suggested the area has evolved beyond its original purpose: “That island u see was meant for farming but then upgrade am to city, enjoy the water oooo.”
Maryam questioned the lifestyle choice: “Is it a must you live on island 🌴🙄 abeg.”
Stateman reacted humorously to the salty water situation: “Salty water for borehole? God don bless una be that… make una no ever dey buy salt cook again, just use am for cooking alone and add Maggi.”
