A Nigerian woman, identified on Facebook as Nwanyi Declutter, has shared how she mistakenly transferred ₦100,000 to the wrong OPay account while trying to pay a couch deposit.
She said the situation became more distressing when the recipient initially denied receiving the money after she contacted her. According to her account, the woman on the other end of the phone even claimed she was blind and alone at home, while her children were out.
The sender reported the issue to OPay and later reviewed her transaction history, where she confirmed the exact account details of the recipient. She then visited a shop where she had earlier made a small purchase and used the opportunity to confront the situation after noticing the same account information again.
At the shop, she said the woman eventually acknowledged seeing the money after initially denying it. The recipient later refunded ₦92,500, deducting ₦7,000 for a black top purchased at the shop and an additional ₦500.
