A man has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to share a painful childhood experience, alleging abuse at a daycare centre he claims was run by the mother of popular Nigerian singer, Simi.
In a lengthy and emotional post, the man said he was only five years old when his mother enrolled him in what he described as “Simi mum’s daycare.”
According to his account, the caregiver appeared kind, soft-spoken, and deeply religious in the presence of parents. However, he alleged that the atmosphere changed once parents were gone.
“She was trusted. Simi smiled in front of parents. Spoke softly. Prayed loudly,” he wrote. “But behind closed doors, that softness disappeared. The room would go quiet in a different way. Heavy. Suffocating.”
Allegations of Inappropriate Conduct
The man claimed that inappropriate acts occurred at the daycare, though he did not provide specific details. He stated that no child should have to endure such experiences.
He explained that at the time, he did not have the words to describe what he felt but remembered sensing that “something felt wrong.” For years, he said, he questioned his own memories and wondered if he had misunderstood events due to his young age.
“But trauma doesn’t forget, even when you try to,” he wrote, adding that the experience continued to affect him well into adulthood.
Breaking the Silence
The writer said he decided to speak publicly not for sympathy, but to challenge what he described as a culture of silence around childhood abuse.
“Not because I want pity. But because silence protects people like her. And it traps people like us,” he stated.
He concluded his post with a message to others who may have experienced similar situations as children:
“If you were a child and something felt wrong, it probably was. And if you’re still carrying it in silence you’re not alone anymore.”
As of the time of this report, there has been no public response from Simi or her representatives regarding the allegation.
