“It Was Just 5 Minutes” — Nigerian Lady Sparks Debate After Calling Out Women Who Downplay Cheating

A Nigerian lady has ignited fresh conversations on social media after publicly criticising women who attempt to minimise cheating in relationships.

The drama unfolded on X, formerly known as Twitter, where she shared a screenshot of a message allegedly sent by a woman who had been caught cheating by her boyfriend.

The Viral Post

Reacting to the apology message, the lady wrote:

You cheated on your boyfriend and still have the mind to say it was just for 5mins ??… Some of you are meant for the circus.”

In the shared screenshot, the accused girlfriend appeared to be pleading for forgiveness after her boyfriend found out about the affair.

She wrote:

“Am sorry you had to find out this way, i swear it was a mistake we didnt do it for long just 5mins and he was done, i didnt even enjoy it. We didnt even kiss i dont know what came over me am sorry babe forgive me.”

Her attempt to downplay the situation — particularly the “just 5mins” explanation — quickly became the focal point of the online debate.

The Boyfriend’s Shocking Response

While many were still processing the apology, the boyfriend’s reply stunned readers even more.

He responded:

“If you message me again, you will die in 5mins time.”

His message sparked concern among some users, with others interpreting it as an emotional outburst rather than a literal threat.

Divided Opinions Online

As expected, social media users were split in their reactions.

Prisca wrote:

“But lowkey, why do you all act like women can’t knack by mistake or when they’re high, drvnk or even so stressed? You can literally knack someone you don’t love and it can be that your man is far away and you miss him…. You guys should change that narrative abeg 🤣🤣 it’s 2026.”

Zeezhu reacted differently:

“I like the guy’s reply after the story. You cheated and you still dey explain.”

OBarth added:

“If to say dem dey arrest people wey dey betray people, this one suppose dey kirikiri.”

Meanwhile, Didi expressed disbelief:

Most times I find it hard to believe these things 😭 it’s not normal to do.”

Bigger Conversation on Accountability

Beyond the viral drama, the incident has reopened wider conversations about accountability, emotional maturity, and how cheating is perceived differently depending on gender.

While some argued that cheating — regardless of duration — remains betrayal, others questioned whether emotional states or circumstances should be considered.

One thing is certain: the “just 5 minutes” excuse has now joined the long list of internet relationship debates that refuse to die down anytime soon.
