EFCC Reacts as Nigerian Man Lists Commission’s Abuja Headquarters as ‘Hotel for Sale’ Online

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has responded after a Nigerian man jokingly put up the agency’s head office building in Abuja as a “hotel for sale” on social media.

The incident unfolded on X (formerly Twitter) when a user identified as @osere_x shared a photo of the EFCC headquarters, advertising it as a property on the market.

In the viral post, he wrote:

“HOTEL AVAILABLE

Location: Abuja

Price – 800M

Agent fee – 120M

Only serious buyers should DM.”

The post quickly gained traction, drawing attention from users who found humor in the audacity of the listing. However, what truly surprised many was the EFCC’s response.

Reacting via its official X handle, the anti-graft agency commented:

“Hmmm…. You get mind oooo🤔”

The witty reply from the Commission further fueled online reactions, with many Nigerians sharing their thoughts in the comment section.

One user, @segunjac, wrote:

“You too dey cruise for this country ooooo. U wan sell eagle thinking eagle is asleep.”

Another, @RiempitoN, joked:

“Agent fee 120M?? 😭😭

My brother no be hotel you dey sell, na Federal Secretariat Annex.

EFCC don already bookmark the post you still dey type ‘only serious buyers’ 😂

Oga abeg change am to ‘Only serious suspects should DM.’

This cruise no be small for Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, @Shege2U cautioned about the possible legal implications, saying:

“It sounds funny now, but when them line out his crime out in court, na only God can save him for fraudulently trying to sell public property… The funny thing is, evidence plenty. Foolishness no let people know the implications of some things.”

While many social media users treated the post as harmless banter, others pointed out that attempting to sell public property—even as a joke—could carry serious consequences under Nigerian law.

As of the time of this report, there has been no indication of further action from the EFCC beyond the humorous reply. However, the episode has once again highlighted the fine line between online cruise and conduct that could attract the attention of law enforcement.
