Mother’s Bid to Reclaim Daughter After Years Abroad Sparks Heated Online Debate

A woman’s emotional appeal to regain custody of her daughter has ignited intense debate on social media after details emerged about her decision to leave the child behind years ago while travelling abroad.

According to a viral account circulating online, the woman revealed that she got married at a time when she felt unprepared and became pregnant barely three months into the marriage. She later gave birth to a baby girl.

Unbeknownst to her husband and family members, the woman was allegedly processing travel documents to relocate to Canada while still living in her matrimonial home. Her visa was eventually approved, but the conditions required her to travel alone. At the time, her baby was reportedly just three months old.

Despite this, she went ahead with the journey, leaving the infant behind without informing her husband or relatives. Reports claim that none of her family members were aware she had travelled out of Nigeria.

Several years later, the woman is said to be financially stable and doing well in Canada. In January, she returned to Nigeria with the intention of reconnecting with her daughter, who is now seven years old. However, the child’s father allegedly denied her access to the girl.

The situation reportedly worsened when the woman discovered that her husband had remarried without her consent and had also concealed the child’s whereabouts from her. Attempts to seek intervention from her own family were said to have failed, as they allegedly declined to get involved.

Now, the woman is reportedly exploring legal options to reclaim custody of her daughter, with plans to take the child back to Canada. Since her return to Nigeria, she is said to have been unable to see or speak with the child.

The case has sharply divided public opinion online. While some sympathisers argue that she deserves a chance to rebuild a relationship with her daughter, others have strongly criticised her actions, describing them as selfish and irresponsible.

One social media user openly backed the husband’s stance, accusing the woman of abandoning her maternal duties.

“A baby you left at three months can also be left again,” the commenter wrote, alleging that the woman used the marriage as a means to secure her travel plans and failed in her responsibilities as a mother.

As the debate continues, many observers say the case highlights the complex intersection of parental responsibility, migration choices, and the long-term emotional impact on children.
