Bayelsa Police Arrest Pastor Over Alleged Plot to Kill Rival Cleric

A Delta State–born pastor, Elijah Oro, has been arrested in Bayelsa State for allegedly plotting to assassinate a rival pastor following disputes over church membership and property.

The arrest was carried out by operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command’s SWAT unit after credible intelligence exposed the alleged plan.

According to police sources, Pastor Oro reportedly hired a 21-year-old suspected cult member, Samuel Daniel, said to be affiliated with the Greenlanders cult, to carry out the attack.

The plot was foiled before any harm occurred, and both suspects are currently in police custody undergoing investigation.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, stated:

“On 28th January 2026, at about 10:35 a.m., SWAT operatives arrested Samuel Daniel, 21, of Nembe Ogbolomabiri Community, and Pastor Elijah Oro, 59, of Ozoro Community, Delta State, in connection with an alleged plot to kill a prophet.”

DSP Mohammed added that Daniel was apprehended at the rival pastor’s premises and reportedly confessed to being a member of the Greenlanders cult. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full motive behind the alleged assassination attempt.
