Popular social commentator and activist, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has ignited widespread outrage online after calling out the Ekiti State Government over what he described as a heartless and shameful allocation to healthcare in the state’s proposed 2026 budget.
In a viral video currently making the rounds on social media, an visibly furious VDM accused the Ekiti State Governor and members of the State House of Assembly of prioritising personal comfort and political privileges over the lives of ordinary citizens.
According to him, such governance has consequences.
“God will punish you. Not just you, but every member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly. When you don’t fear God, you will enjoy His punishment,” VDM said angrily.
₦415.5bn Budget, But Only ₦68m for Primary Healthcare?
VDM revealed that Ekiti State presented a proposed ₦415.5 billion budget for 2026, yet allegedly allocated just ₦68 million to primary healthcare across the entire state.
He questioned how such a figure could realistically cater to the health needs of millions of residents, especially the most vulnerable.
Referencing the 2006 population census, which placed Ekiti’s population at about 2.3 million, VDM argued that even a conservative population estimate makes the allocation indefensible.
“Even if we don’t exaggerate, let’s say Ekiti now has over twenty million people. Elderly people, pregnant women, children — and you budget ₦68 million for primary healthcare?” he asked.
₦1.6m for Drugs, But Millions for Lawmakers’ Comfort
The activist further alleged that only ₦1.6 million was earmarked for drugs, laboratory services, and medical supplies, a figure he described as insulting and dangerous.
In contrast, he listed several budget items allegedly favouring lawmakers and government officials, including:
₦618 million for honoraria and sitting allowances
₦150 million for maintenance of office furniture
₦24 million for refreshments and meals
Over ₦100 million for office equipment purchases
“You people budget more money for food, furniture and sitting down than for hospitals. God will punish you,” VDM repeated.
Questions Over Duplicate and ‘Confusing’ Budget Entries
VDM also raised concerns over what he described as duplicated and unclear budget lines, questioning why the government would allocate hundreds of millions to purchase new equipment while simultaneously budgeting heavily reminder for maintenance of existing ones.
To him, the figures suggest either gross incompetence or deliberate manipulation.
“You Treat Yourselves Abroad, The Poor Die at Home”
Lamenting the state of healthcare in rural areas, VDM accused public office holders of hypocrisy, claiming that while they and their families seek medical care abroad or in expensive private hospitals, ordinary citizens are abandoned to poorly funded primary health centres.
His video has since triggered intense debates online, with many Nigerians echoing his concerns and demanding transparency and accountability from the Ekiti State Government.
As reactions continue to pour in, calls are growing louder for the state authorities to address the allegations and clarify the controversial budget figures.
