A Nigerian lady has sparked online reactions after sharing a viral incident at an eatery, where a young man reportedly overspent due to shame and ego.
In a video shared on X by @mazi_Chinonso, she recounted that she visited the eatery and noticed a young man and a lady being served before her. The lady confidently ordered Chinese rice and fried rice, along with plantain, salad, a large pack of Hollandia yoghurt, and ₦5,000 turkey.
The narrator observed that the young man appeared visibly uncomfortable, likely realizing the bill exceeded his budget. Despite his unease, he stayed silent and didn’t suggest cheaper alternatives. When the lady asked if he wanted anything for himself, he quickly declined, saying he wasn’t hungry and still had food at home.
The witness concluded with a cautionary note: “Don’t use shyness or shame to spend money you didn’t plan to spend.”
The story has drawn strong reactions online, with many sympathizing with the young man. One commentator said, “Poor guy, he even said he’s not hungry.” Another added, “This is why I always calculate my money before going on dates. Shame no dey pay bills.”
