News of Destiny Boy’s death broke on Sunday after disturbing videos surfaced on social media. In the clips, the late singer was seen lying motionless in the back of a vehicle while being transported to a mortuary. Cotton wool was visibly placed in his nostrils and ears, a scene that triggered widespread shock, grief and speculation.
The videos quickly went viral, prompting many Nigerians to demand clarity over the circumstances surrounding his sudden death.
Amid the growing speculation, an unidentified associate of the singer later released another video, urging the public to stop spreading unverified claims. He stated that Destiny Boy had been battling a private health condition before his death.
“God, I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death,” the man said.
“Destiny was nursing a health issue in his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it. May God rest his soul.”
Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy discovered his passion for music at a young age and carved a unique identity for himself with Fuji-inspired sounds. He began his journey at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he worked as a backup dancer for veteran Fuji musician Pasuma.
His major breakthrough came in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-styled cover of Davido’s hit song If, which gained massive attention on social media and propelled him into the spotlight. He later released covers of songs by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor, further establishing himself among young street-pop and Fuji-influenced artistes.
Destiny Boy went on to release several original tracks, including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey.
Beyond music, the late singer embraced family life. In November 2024, he welcomed his first child with his partner, Iremide, a milestone he reportedly cherished deeply.
As investigations continue, fans, colleagues and the general public remain hopeful that the police probe will provide clarity and justice in the tragic death of the young artiste.
