A man who drove along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway barely 20 minutes before world-renowned British boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a fatal car accident has come forward to share his observations, alongside a video of the road.
The man, Orowale Kolapo, popularly known on Facebook as Oni Foto, disclosed that he had just traveled the same stretch of road shortly before the crash that left Anthony Joshua injured and claimed the lives of two members of his team — Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.
In a video he shared online, Kolapo showed the condition of the expressway, disputing claims that poor road conditions were responsible for the accident. He described reports blaming the road as misleading and part of what he termed a misinformation campaign.
According to Kolapo, the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is “one of the smoothest roads in Nigeria,” stressing that there are no bumps from Berger to Iwo Road. While acknowledging that the incident was tragic, he suggested that the crash may have resulted from a driver’s misjudgment rather than the state of the road.
Calling the accident “unfortunate,” Kolapo maintained that the expressway itself should not be blamed. He also offered prayers for the deceased, expressing sympathy to their families and to Anthony Joshua.
Sharing the video, he wrote:
“Anthony Joshua’s accident was like 20 mins after I drove past the same road and there is a misconception and propaganda going on that it was bad road that caused the mishap. That is untrue. Lagos/Ibadan expressway is one of the smoothest roads in Nigeria as a whole. You will not step into a bump from Berger to Iwo Road. It is just unfortunate and I think it was a driver’s miscalculation. May the souls of the dead rest well.”
Anthony Joshua is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Lagos, while Nigerians continue to mourn the loss of his two close associates.
