Man exposes lady who scammed him of ₦50k after promising fish delivery

A Nigerian man exposed a lady who scammed him of ₦50,000 after she promised to help him get a specific type of fish and deliver it to him, only to block him hours after receiving the money.

The story was shared on a popular social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), by the user @AyokusehinD.

He called on Nigerians to help locate the lady to prevent her from continuing the illegal act.

He explained how it all began, saying he had an urgent need for a specific kind of fish. He shared his request online, and several people reached out to offer help.

One of them, a lady, said she knew someone who sold the fish.

He initially wanted to buy fish worth ₦100,000 but was suspicious of the lady, so he sent only half the amount, ₦50,000, with a promise to pay the balance upon delivery. However, the lady kept giving excuses and eventually blocked him.

Before being blocked, he managed to save some of her pictures, which he shared online along with her details, hoping to get assistance in locating her.

He shared his full statement: “Yesterday I posted a video of a kind of fish that I urgently needed for someone for a cargo today. Different people reached out to me that they can source for it. A lady, @spectreOfBeauty reached out and said she knows the fish and can supply it. I doubted her but I felt, I should not allow my suspicion spirit to make me doubt her genuity. I checked her account and she has over 12,000 followers.”

“I checked her page and saw she is always posting her pictures daily and involved in different conversation. So I felt I should give her a chance. She told me she is hustling and will like to do the supply at least to make some money too.”

“So we agreed that she will get the fish, 50 pieces at 100k. She asked me to send the money since I don’t know her and my suspicions as omo Egba, I told her I will give her 50k and when she supplied, at the point of delivery, she will get her balance.”

“I wasn’t at peace in my spirit so I quickly downloaded most of her pictures before I transferred the money to her. So I sent her 50k and then the story started.”

“She first told me she has gotten the fish but couldn’t deliver yesterday night as it is late but she will deliver before 9am today. I called her and she wasn’t picking but sending me messages.”

So I told her to send me the picture of the fish, lo and behold, she said there was no light and she couldn’t see. Immediately I know she is a scam.”

“Not to write her off completely, I chatted her this morning and she said she is almost in the delivery place. After two hours, I checked on her and my people, this thief has deactivated her account, the phone was picked by a man, and she blocked me on WhatsApp.”

“She deleted most of our chat on Twitter but she couldn’t for a few ones. I am not pained about the money but about the fact that she will be scamming so many people here. The most painful for me is not meeting up with the delivery to the person.”

“I have to sort this out in another way. If I had listened to my forefathers’ warning, I wouldn’t be scammed!!!!”

The post generated significant attention online, with many people taking to the comments to share their thoughts and warn others.

See some reactions below:

@SommyApril: “You sent her money because she was female when you clearly had males there. I’m sorry, but you deserve it.”

@BounteouSjyny: “With this pix i’m seeing here. You f up big time. When you checked her page, was there anything like fish or something related?  Hmmmm.”

@UmeanohDaniel: “I called the number. A guy picked and said if it because of this matter I should forget about it. He hung up. What is happening.”

@balogin: “50k n she disappeared. Na wa o. She’s not invisible, though. When she’s caught now, blaming the devil will be her first option.”

@Nrs_Idreeserh: “Someone looks and dressed like this, and you think she’s genuine. Wallahi, frame three, and four is enough for me to know she doesn’t look genuine.”
