Barring any last-minute changes, President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to lead a high-powered delegation of African leaders to the groundbreaking ceremony of the new ECOWAS Headquarters building in Lugbe, Abuja, on Sunday.
Following the groundbreaking ceremony, the President will return to the State House Conference Centre at 9 a.m. to attend the 62nd Ordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo, Liberian President George Opong Wey, and Senegalese President Macky Sall are among regional leaders already in Nigeria for the 62nd Ordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads and Heads of State and Government.
Presidents of Togo, Faure Gnassingbe; Benin Republic, Patrice Talon; Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio; and Cote d Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara are among those present.
The road leading to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, as well as a few other busy roads, have been given a facelift, with billboards featuring photographs of visiting ECOWAS Heads of State and Government visible.
Buhari recently stepped down as Chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, handing over the position to Chadian Deby Itno.
