A Nigerian man has revealed a terrifying story about how, after getting into a taxi in Abuja, he barely avoided an alleged “one chance” robbery attempt.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), user @simplymusah described the experience, saying that he got into what appeared to be a RAV4.
At first, he was the only passenger, but the driver asked him to switch to the back seat so someone else could sit in front, which is not something he usually does.
A short time after moving to the back, a man in all black, with a face cap covering most of his face, appeared next to him inexplicably. Concerned, @simplymusah urged the driver to pull over, but his pleas went unanswered.
His suspicions increased when the driver tried to pick up a fourth passenger close to BUA Estate.
“As I tried to come down, I felt something pressed against my side—it felt like a weapon,” he wrote. “The man next to me was trying to control my movement. I screamed and shouted for help, pushing the door open as I struggled.”
Luckily, security personnel in the vicinity of the estate caught sight of the altercation just before the traffic light changed to green.
As a result, the suspect ran away, but the poster was able to escape before the driver could take off.
He concluded his post with a warning: “Please, always trust your instincts.”
The story has sparked concern online, with many urging residents of Abuja to remain vigilant and cautious when entering private cabs.
