Workers protest ₦4,000 daily pay, stop construction at the Rivers State House of Assembly

Workers at the Rivers State House of Assembly construction site have reportedly stopped work due to low pay and are demanding an increase beyond the daily wage of ₦4,000.

A video posted to X (formerly Twitter) by user @ChuksEricE exposed this, showing a number of workers gathered outside the assembly complex, refusing to return to work until they had a direct conversation with the engineers.

The workers were heard chanting and protesting in the video, stating that they would not let the construction proceed until their demands were fulfilled.

The post claims that the engineers sent a representative instead of meeting with the workers, a decision that was rejected by the workers.

The voice behind the camera explained the situation: “They’re protesting. They said they’re not working because of the low wages. They’re being paid ₦4,000 daily for the project. The engineers are not responding. House of Assembly, Rivers State, Port Harcourt.”

He added, “Workers say they’re not working. They’re tired.”

As the clip circulated online, it drew numerous reactions from concerned individuals who stormed the comment section to air their views.
