The suspects, according to Oyeyemi, are Daniel Akapo, 27 years old, Idowu Ajao Sunday, 20 years old, and Dare Olusegun, 24 years old. They were apprehended following a distress call received by policemen attached to Ago Iwoye Divisional headquarters, that a motorcyclist, one Shefiu Moshood, was being attacked by two men who pretended to be passengers and asked him to take them to Oke Erigba village
“The two suspects abruptly stopped him along the road and informed him that they would not be returning.”
“They pretended to give him money only to bring out powdered ground pepper and rub it in the rider’s eyes with the intent of stealing the motorcycle.
“During his struggle with them, a battle axe fell from the suspects’ bag, which the victim chose to attack them with.
“During the struggle, the DPO Ago Iwoye Division, SP Noah Adekanye, arrived with his men and some OPC men.
“When they saw the cops, the hoodlums fled, but they were quickly apprehended, and Daniel Akapo and Idowu Sunday were apprehended.
“During interrogation, they confessed to the crime and informed the police that it was one Dare Olusegun who asked them to go and steal the motorcycle with the promise that he would help them sell it somewhere in Ibadan.”
“Their confession led them to the arrest of the said Dare Olusegun, who also corroborated the statements of the arrested suspects.”
Oyeyemi stated that the suspects have been transferred to the state criminal investigation department for discreet investigation by the Commissioner of Police, Lanre S. Bankole.
