Student from SSS 2 drowns in the Ondo River

Mwafor Emmanuel, a Senior Secondary School 2 student at Owena Community Grammar School in Owena, Ondo East Local Government Area of Ondo State, was discovered dead in a river.

According to reports, the 19-year-old student drowned in a river behind his school.

“The incident occurred after school hours,” said a teacher at the school who spoke on the condition of anonymity. When the boy decided to swim alone, the other students had gone home. Before jumping into the river, he took off his uniform and sandals. He must have drowned as he swam deeper into the river.

“Unfortunately, he may have been rescued if other students were with him at the time of the incident. They would have raised the alarm. But he went alone to swim.”

When his body was discovered by a passerby and deposited at the State General Hospital in Ondo town the next morning, police detectives were summoned.

State police spokesperson Funmi Odunlami confirmed the incident and described the death as unfortunate.
