A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after revealing that money he abandoned in his PiggyVest account years ago had grown significantly due to accumulated interest.
According to Kingsley Fortunate, the incident dates back to 2020 when he attempted to withdraw ₦1,000 from his PiggyVest account but was unable to complete the transaction.
Following the failed withdrawal attempt, he reportedly lost interest in the account and eventually misplaced the phone number linked to it.
Years later, while trying to open a fresh PiggyVest account with a new phone number because of the platform’s attractive interest rates, he decided to test his old login details out of curiosity.
To his surprise, he successfully accessed the old account and discovered that the ₦1,000 had grown to over ₦4,000.
Sharing the experience on Facebook, he wrote:
“Imagine if it was N1m I just abandoned, we should be looking at over 4m today. Never underestimate the power of compound interest.”
The post quickly gained attention online, with many social media users sharing mixed reactions about savings, inflation, and investment returns.
Reactions Trailing the Post
One user, Raymond, wrote:
“The value of 4000 in 2000 isn’t the same as today.. either ways. The money has lost value.”
Chukwu Ebuka asked:
“If I save 1 million there, how much am I likely going to get after six months?”
Another commenter, Muhammed Habeebat, suggested the failed withdrawal may have been due to withdrawal restrictions:
“You could not withdraw because their minimum withdrawal limit is 2k.”
Trust Vanilla also praised the platform’s returns, saying:
“Piggy is doing well,, am getting 5k interest at every month, that’s my shawarma money.”
