Sunday Lukas, 44, was placed under remand in the correctional facility on Wednesday by a Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Badagry for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.
Following Lukas’ not guilty plea to defilement, Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya ordered that he be detained at the Awarjigoh Correctional Centre in Badagry.
In addition, Adekomaiya ordered that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
Ayodele Adeosun, the police prosecutor, had earlier informed the court that Lukas had committed the crime at No. 4 Aribena Street, Ijanikin, Lagos, on May 28, 2024, at around 12:20 p.m.
He informed the court that Lukas had touched the girl indecently by sticking his fingers in her intimate areas.
According to him, the offence committed contravened Section 135, of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge that was preferred against him by the police.
As a result, Adekomaiya placed him under arrest while she awaited the DPP’s legal counsel.
He postponed the case until October 28, 2024, when the decision regarding Lukas’ bail request and the DPP’s recommendation will be taken into account.
