“I Was Hospitalised After Receiving ₦147 Million in Cash” — Nigerian Man Shares Shocking Reaction to Sudden Wealth

A Nigerian man identified on X as Dr Komolafe has opened up about how receiving a massive cash payment from the sale of an inherited property completely altered his life — not in the way many might expect.

According to his post, the experience happened eight years ago when he sold a family property and was paid a staggering ₦147 million in physical cash. Rather than celebration and excitement, the sudden windfall triggered unexpected emotional and physical distress

.Dr Komolafe revealed that seeing such a large amount of money at once was deeply overwhelming. He shared a photo showing bundles of naira notes stacked together, symbolizing the life-changing moment.

In his words:

The first time I saw money, I meant real money in my life was 8 years ago when I sold an inherited property and I was paid in cash, 147 million Naira. I discovered I can’t sleep again, I became restless, I was visiting toilet without eating, I was later admitted in the hospital.”

Stress Instead of Celebration

Instead of immediate joy, he described intense anxiety and physical reactions. He struggled to sleep, felt constantly restless, and began experiencing digestive issues — frequently going to the toilet despite not eating.

What many would consider a dream scenario reportedly became a health crisis. The shock and pressure of suddenly owning such a large sum eventually led to hospital admission.

The Hidden Side of Sudden Wealth

His story has sparked conversations online about the psychological impact of sudden financial change. While wealth is often associated with comfort and security, abrupt financial shifts can trigger stress, fear of loss, and overwhelming responsibility.

Experts often note that sudden wealth — whether from inheritance, lottery winnings, or property sales — can cause anxiety, especially when there is no prior financial planning or emotional preparation.

Dr Komolafe’s experience serves as a reminder that financial breakthroughs can come with unexpected mental and emotional challenges.

What many see as a blessing can also require careful adjustment and support.
