A Nigerian woman has stirred discussions online after advising married women to protect their husbands’ secrets, particularly when it comes to sensitive issues like infertility.
Speaking at the Annual Women’s Convention of an unidentified church, the female preacher highlighted the importance of women safeguarding their homes and preserving their husbands’ dignity.
According to her, exposing a man’s fertility challenges to the public can deeply wound his ego and damage his self-esteem.
Don’t expose your husband’s infertility
According to the preacher, “Learn how to cover your husband’s shame even before the man. If you notice that your husband is not a man and you’re married or has a low sperm count and you’ve stayed five years without a child, don’t wake up before the public and tell them that my husband cannot produce a child. Take the insult and swallow it. You don’t expose this man, you have killed that man alive if you tell the world that he cannot perform.”
Resolution
Without sounding like a hypocrite, the preacher clarified by adding that the woman should ensure that their husbands pursue medical treatments.
“That’s the highest secret a man has, continue your prayers, believe and trust in God. Tell your husband to go and receive treatment so that one day God will put a smile on your face,” she added.
Mixed reactions
Her comments have since drawn mixed reactions on social media. While some praised her for encouraging women to protect their marriages and show loyalty, others argued that such advice pressures women to remain silent about issues that require openness and medical intervention.
lily.edegware noted: “Hei! Wonderful. Hope if it’s your son and your daughter-in-law is covering his shame you will applaud her.”
asa._.nwa stated: “If I don’t cover my husbands shame who will Ehn? My husband is my crown na 😂😂😂 nde agadi na nzuzu 😂.”
zayy_nab1 opined: “As I see their yellow yellow I don know say nah their type dey advice women to kpaii for abusive marriage 😂.”
things_dey_occur said: “I thought she was saying rubbish initially until she said, “Tell your husband to go and get treatment.”
Essentially, all she said applies to both men and women. If either partner is the reason for a fertility issue, don’t go about shaming them in public; protect their secret while ensuring an adequate treatment routine is being followed until the issue is resolved. That makes sense, actually… imagine shaming them only for treatments to cure the problem, and they eventually produce. They will forever resent you, that’s if the marriage doesnt collapse!”
