AVOID THE MY-TURN-TO-EAT-MINDSET

I have tried to emphasize that what is crucial for us in this election is to change the culture of corruption, waste and state capture, which means treating the resources of the people as your private resources. It has been the fundamental problem of this country. It brought down the First Republic and set up a chain of events that resulted in the civil war. It has been the touted reason for the failure of successive Governments ever since.

It is a mindset! The clearest manifestation of the mindset is the sense of entitlement that makes a public official believe that he can deploy public property to his private ends. When you see manifestation of that mindset in any candidate, you should cancel out that candidate from your list. Recently the wives of Tinubu and his mate, Shettima, brazenly rode in a jet belonging to the Nigerian Air force for a political campaign engagement.

Since the news broke, I have waited for their husbands to publicly castigate them and pay for the illegal use of the jet. However, they have carried on with an air that proves conclusively that this would be a pattern in their Government if they should win.

This Air Force jet was put into corrupt use by these women and their shameless husbands. They stole the use of the jet and the cost of its deployment. These guys are stealing from us even before election into office. We should imagine what they would do if elected.

If we wish to break from our past and present, we must avoid these unscrupulous men and their equally rapacious wives.
